The use of marijuana for medical purposes has significantly increased in popularity in the United States over the past few years as more and more states have moved toward legalizing cannabis. Medical marijuana was initially made legal in California in 1996 and is now generally accepted throughout the United States. It is known to benefit individuals with chronic pain, anxiety, panic attacks, or other physical or mental disorders.
Many Americans have tried cannabis products for therapeutic or recreational purposes, as popular support for cannabis legalization has reached new heights. While a recent Gallup survey indicated that 49% of American people have tried marijuana, data from Statista's Global Consumer Survey's OTC & Pharma 2021 special indicates that just 43% of Americans have tried CBD or medicinal cannabis. 37 states allow the use of medicinal cannabis products as of February 2022.
