Dr. P Says: Swollen Legs Are NOT Always “Just Fluid” 🦵

One thing I hear all the time is:

“Oh, it’s just swelling.”

Dr. P Says…
sometimes it is.
And sometimes it absolutely is NOT.

Swollen legs can be related to:

  • Poor circulation
  • Heart issues
  • Kidney problems
  • Vein disease
  • Medication side effects
  • Blood clots
  • Lymphedema
  • Excess sodium intake
  • Standing or sitting too long

And during summer in Queens and New York City, the heat can make swelling even worse.

Dr. P Says:

Your body talks to you.
Swelling is one of the ways it gets your attention.

Especially if you notice:
🚩 One leg larger than the other
🚩 Redness or warmth
🚩 Pain in the calf
🚩 Shortness of breath
🚩 Rapid weight gain
🚩 Swelling that keeps worsening

Please do not ignore it.

At Outlier Health & Wellness, we evaluate swelling carefully because the cause matters.

Sometimes patients think it is “just age” or “just salt,” and it turns out to need medical attention.

Dr. P Says:

Compression socks and cutting back on sodium can help SOME people…
but first we need to understand WHY the swelling is happening.
